Exciting Update: Building Upward Sooner Than Expected!

Thanks to additional funding from the clinic’s owner, Dr. Hassan Sesay, we’re moving ahead with constructing the second level now rather than postponing it. After consulting with construction experts, he determined it’s best to complete the second story while materials from the ground level can still be repurposed. This approach also ensures that the surgery center remains watertight during the rainy season.

The revised plan includes two patient wards—one for men and one for women—as well as several private hospital rooms on the second floor. The plans provide space for 18 in-patient beds. Once patients are mobile after surgery, they will transition from recovery to these in-patient rooms. The hospital will proudly bear Rashid’s name, and we’re excited to see this vision take shape.

On March 24th, the second-level flooring was completed. Over the next four weeks, as it cures, the team will focus on molding additional concrete blocks for the upper walls. The goal is to have the entire structure under roof before the rainy season begins in June. There’s still much to do, but construction is moving swiftly!

The latest photos capture the labor-intensive process of mixing concrete by hand and using a human chain to pour the second-story floor—all while working in temperatures reaching the mid-to-upper 80s Fahrenheit (30°+ Celsius). We’re incredibly grateful to our donors for turning this dream into reality. Rashid’s compassionate legacy will live on through the care provided at this hospital.

If you’d like to contribute to the construction or help equip the surgery center, donations are still welcome. Visit the Donate page on our website, provide your name and how you learned about the nonprofit, and complete the next page with your donation details. Every gift helps bring this vital facility to life!
